University of Reading Student Records
System Implementation
The University of Reading has approximately 12,000 students, many of whom live
in University accommodation on or around the campus. A number of systems are
used to record students' personal data, tuition fees, accommodation fees and
other financial information. Early in 2002 it was recognised that these aged
systems were no longer performing adequately and the University identified a
requirement to replace them and simultaneously create an interface between them
and their existing finance system, Agresso Business World.
Realising that the necessary skills were not available in-house the University
selected Isis to assist them in the project.
The assignment demanded a broad range of expertise from the consultants, including:
• Understanding the database structures of the various systems in order
to correctly map data and specify the interface
• The ability to specify requirements for additional bespoke work from
multiple software suppliers and to manage the relationships between them
• The ability to create new database tables, views and processes to allow
users to employ Agresso enquiry tools to view the student data and to building
bespoke web views for use outside the application.
• Report Writing both for the creation of bespoke invoices and statements
and for a range of ad-hoc reporting requirements.
Isis' involvement did not end with the successful completion of the project.
Continuing support and ad hoc consultancy as requested by the client ensure all-important
continuity and reassurance for the users.
